The method of LCA as strategic tool in 2nd generation biofuels process development
In the present
study, the
life cycle assessment of second generation biofuels assists traditional methods concerning the evaluation of the technical and economical
performance. Before carrying
out labour-intensive laboratory trails,
new conceptual ideas are tested
against each other with the
help of a computerized LCA
(Life Cycle Assessment) model. For example alternative energy provision as process heat can have significant influence in the overall environmental
performance of energy intensive processes due to
high emission diversity. Additionally the
use of environmentally problematic auxiliary materials can also influence results in the same way.
